10. Afforestation technique
Transport of seedlings was done rapidly and at night
time or cool and wet weather, with saplings covered
with tarpaulins that prevent their dehydration and
protect their roots.
After the seedlings have reached the place of use, they
were immediately placed in trenches, with a depth of
30-40 cm and length as needed. The sheaves of
seedlings were placed prone on the wall exposed to
the wind, or southern, and then were covered with a
layer of soil of 8 to 10 cm thick, which should cover
the their roots and 4 to 5 cm of the stem; the earth was
well tamped to prevent passage of air and, if
necessary, it was watered.
Seedlings were in the ditch until they were used.
The instability of the land imposed giving up the
preparation of terraces and hearths in order to avoid
weakening the filling soil fixation by the grassy
carpet.
Planting was done in pits of 40 x 40 x 30 cm, without
further land preparation.

11. Conclusions
The installation of acoustic and environmental
pollutant protection forest belts, in the factory
premises and outside of OSB Kronospan Brasov
(Stupini), is a remarkable event in several ways:
Set on the wave of land 8 feet high, with a complex
vertical structure, comprising main basic species and
mixture, help and shrubs species, namely an original
horizontal structure, with rows and biogroups for
fixing the soil, with thorny species for outskirt
protection and species adapted to alkaline, carbonate
and exposed to drought soils, acoustic protection
forest belts constitute a national first, aimed at
reducing noise by approx. 6 to 8 decibels.
Kronospan's concern to fund the planting of forest
belts that are polyfunctional soundproofing, antipollution,
ameliorative of microclimate, protective of
the Castle Hill reserves - Lempes and Harman Swamp
and creating an improved picturesque landscape to
Stupini neighborhood, is an example of concern for
air and landscape quality, and of the respect for
national and international environmental legislation.
Planting of the 29,000 saplings to create
environmental protection forest belts, fall within the
national concerns to stop climate change by reducing
carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, since the three
acres of forest will sequester over time approx. 15
tons of CO 2 each year.
For the personnel of Kronospan the effect of forest
belts on the microclimate in the factory premises will
be beneficial by diminishing winds and climate
extremes, by the beneficent shade in hot days and,
especially, the enlivenment of landscape with intense
black pine green with dog rose flowers (wildrose) and
hawthorn etc.
