Forest belts for acoustic and pollution protection on the perimeter of
Kronospan Romania SRL

1. Study objective
This study aims to achieve a protection forest belts
with a polyfunctional role:
-For fixing of the two earth walls (Photo 1 and 2)
designed in order to mitigate the impact of pollution
(noise, aesthetics, chemical). Branches and leaves of
trees and shrubs of the forest belts intercept and slow
down the rainwater that falls on the ground and their
roots allow water retention and avoid the phenomenon
of sliding, erosion and washing of the soil;

– Noise reduction with 6 to 8 decibels (complete
structure forest belts, provided by stand and
undergrowth, are sound barriers as effective as stone
walls);
– Retention of pollutants (PM 10) from the air (dust
and noxious gases), trees and shrubs being known for
their storage capacity or as metabolites of nuisances
(Bolea and Chira, 2008 and 2009) and air purification
(penetrable forest belts, perpendicular on the wind
direction, can achieve a purification with 10% better
(compared to free zones), on a width of 50-60 m
before the forest belt and on a width of 200-250 m on
land located behind the forest belt;
– Beautifying of the landscape of Stupini
neighborhood, contributing to the city's imageto the
improvement of biodiversity and ensuring
sustainability of urban areas (McPherson and Haig,
1982);
- Guarding of protected areas "Castle Hill – Lempeş",
"Harman Swamp", "Prejmer Forest and Eutrophic
Swamps" located relatively close of Kronospan plant;
- Reduction of CO 2 content in the air, the annual
consumption and storage in biomass reaching with
trees maturity 40 t CO 2 / ha;
- Air refreshing, because the release of oxygen will
reach at the maturity of trees 30 t O 2 / ha;
- Stopping the degradation of soil by grazing waves
that destroys grass formation, accelerates erosion,
causes soil compaction, spoils its structure, increasing
surface runoff, especially when grazing on wet
surfaces, early in spring or in late fall.
