FORESTRY BELTS SILVICULTURE AND CINEGETIC REVIEW XVII/30/2012 author recommends, immediately after planting, mobilizing the soil between rows by light harrowing. An extremely useful recommendation makes Sus N.I. to increase the forest belt density and speed its entry into action namely: - cutting-back shrubs during the first 2 years after planting, especially the least developed specimens; - formation, after 2-3 years after planting, of the crown of main species, by practicing regular artificial pruning to: - removal of too developed lateral branches suffering a lot because of snow breaks; - improve growth and development of species; -gradual transition of rapidly growing aid species from the first floor to the second, after closing the mountain, for growth and development of key species and for height adjustment of snowdrifts; -immediate restoration of existing forest belts in the area, which are in a degraded state, on this occasion it will also be considered the introduction in their composition of fruit tree and decorative species (without resorting to some exotic species which may become a challenge on adaptation and maintenance). 7. Regarding some design work on planting or restoration of snow protection forest belts The presented facts on the principles of creating communication ways protection forest belts do not exhaust the requirements posed by this type of forest belt to the business of design in this field. Although many of these principles are found, as shown, in the literature developed by reputed Romanian specialists, they are practically not found in the solutions contained in projects developed lately in this domain. Thus, there is no justification for forest belt widths adopted and, especially, there is no justification for the different widths adopted for sections close to the roads, the differences being sometimes significant. There is no justification for the distance of location of the forest belt compared to the limit of the passageway. It not shown is the situation before and after sections of the areas the studied since the intervals with length less than 300 m between two designed forest belts should be also set for planting. Although the micro relief of the land is a key element that determines the snow accumulation, no evidence is presented, but at most it is shown "easy cut" or, of its depth depends the degree of snow accumulation phenomenon. Characterization of stationary conditions is, in some cases, absolutely general, without any link with the subject of the project. Thus, for a section located in the area of Slobozia chemical unit, so south of the river Ialomiţa, it is located in the Călmăţui river valley, north of Ialomiţa and being part in fact of Buzău basin and not Ialomiţa. From many projects lacks specific analysis of soil conditions in the section itself, being presented the main characteristics of soil types and subtypes of the general physical and geographical area, or presenting variations of soil type on a stretch of only 200 m in length. It cannot fail to arouse surprise the statement on the presence of "weak to moderate" erosion in conditions of a "horizontalplane land" relief. Although it is hard to accept even low erosion under the conditions of such a relief, it is well known that the moderate erosion involves washing a layer 25- 50% thick of the humus horizon, i.e. 50-100% of the horizon A. The same absolutely general presentation of the natural environment is made for a section located in the city Slobozia ring (although then mentioned "Slobozia railway station"), being presented the Buzău river hydrology. In regards to the construction of forest belts, contrary to recommendations on the composition of marginal rows of snow protection forest belts, in some projects it is provided for the introduction of mixed and even main species in marginal rows. No attention is paid to the use of fruit tree and ornamental species (in thcase of the section provided to be planted along the city ring of Slobozia, county residence, it is provided . pure white poplar plantation, although soils are presented as cambic, alluvial, and typical chernozem). 8. Instead of conclusions The forest belts for protection of communication ways against heavy snow falls are of major economic and social importance in the life of the country. Installation and maintenance investments are very large (in the any case, much lower than the costs for clearing snow every year). This requires a competent, responsible, very careful approach. "...
