10.1.4.4 Records<br />
The information specified below will comprise the waste record [Ref. 48]:<br />
· Details of ownership;<br />
· The origin of the waste and the processes that generated it;<br />
· Physical, radiological and chemical inventories of the waste;<br />
· Any further technical data available to enable further waste characterisation at a later<br />
date;<br />
· Form and content of the waste (e.g. radioisotopes and hazardous materials);<br />
· <strong>Waste</strong> assay and monitoring records;<br />
· Pre-treatment of the waste;<br />
· Treatment and conditioning of the waste;<br />
· Packaging type;<br />
· Design of the containers and/or packages and of equipment, structures, systems and<br />
components for the pre-treatment, treatment, conditioning and storage of the waste;<br />
· Modifications to waste packages;<br />
· Discharge of the waste;<br />
· Records generated during storage of the waste;<br />
· Data needed for a national inventory of waste;<br />
· Records of non-conformances and corrective actions on the waste;<br />
· Information on incidents and defects;<br />
· Assessment, inspection and verifications relating to all activities;<br />
· Non-conformances and corrective actions relating to all activities.<br />
Records of the following will also be retained to assist with the waste history [Ref. 49]:<br />
· Operating procedures;<br />
· Staff training;<br />
· Records from the control process for generation, treatment, packaging and conditioning;<br />
· Procurement of the containers and/or packages and of equipment, structures, systems<br />
and components for the pre-treatment, treatment, conditioning and storage of the waste;<br />
· Trends in operating performance;<br />
· Environmental monitoring;<br />
· Authorisations (e.g. licenses).<br />
10.1.4.5 Packaging Records<br />
All packaging will be suitable for the waste that it stores. Packaging labels are the primary<br />
means of linking waste packages to the associated records. Packages will be:<br />
· Provided with a unique identification number;<br />
· Marked with a permanent legible means of identification;<br />
· Labels will be qualified to their intended storage environment and life;<br />
· Metal tags, bar codes or optical character recognition using laser etching will be used<br />
(consistent with the intended environment and lifetime);<br />
· Check digits will be used to validate package identifiers.
