Reference ID Text from reference documents 51 WP2-092 The source of wind speed information must be specified in the L2P confidence data variable Wspd_source (defined in Table 2.1.4) and the difference in acquisition time between SST observation and wind speed measure must be specified in SR entry see next five rows the L2P confidence variable Wspd_Dtime_from_SST. 51 The GDS specifies the following rules: 51 Rule WP2-093 Rule 2.1.4a: A 10m surface wind speed value should be assigned to each SST measurement pixel using the GDS L2P MRG.0130 2.1.4a confidence data variable Wspd_value described in Table A1.2.2. As a general rule for the GDS v1.0, only simultaneous wind speed measurements should be used otherwise NWP analyses should be used. Future revisions of the GDS will most likely use near contemporaneous wind speed observations from other satellite instruments. 51 Rule WP2-094 Rule 2.1.4b: The source of data used to set the L2P confidence data variable Wspd should be indicated in the confidence Format 2.1.4b variable Wspd_source as defined in Table 2.1.4. requirement 51 Rule WP2-095 Rule 2.1.4c: In the case of microwave SST measurements, the use of a simultaneous microwave 10m wind speed MRG.0150 2.1.4c measurements obtained from the same instrument providing the SST measurement may be used. 51 Rule WP2-096 Rule 2.1.4d: In the absence of a simultaneous surface wind speed measurement, an NWP estimated 10m surface wind MRG.0160 2.1.4d speed (See Appendix A3, Table A3.1.1) should be used to set the L2P confidence data variable Wspd_value. 52 Rule WP2-097 Rule 2.1.4e: The difference in time expressed in hours between the time of SST measurement and the time of wind speed MRG.0170 2.1.4e measurement should be entered into the L2P confidence data variable Wspd_Dtime_from_SST.
