Medspiration MED-SOC-RS-001_1 System Requirements Document Issue F LowAODLimit, HighAODLimit and the corresponding maximum rejection rates will be set in a configuration file. 3.2.4 Merging auxiliary data with SST SR.MRG.0010/I Generation of L2P shall extract auxiliary data (wind speed, surface solar irradiance and aerosol optical depth) and collocate with SST data. SR.MRG.0020/I The merging of auxiliary data (L2P-PP) must consist of a common preprocessing pixel based operation for Infra-red and microwave data. SR.MRG.0030/I The merging operation shall assign a fractional sea ice value if required (if no previous fractional sea ice exist in the data file). SR.MRG.0040/I The merging operation shall assign a wind speed value. SR.MRG.0050/I The merging operation shall assign a surface solar irradiance (SSI) value. SR.MRG.0060/I The merging operation shall assign an Atmospheric Optical Depth (AOD) value if required (if no previous AOD exist in the data file). SR.MRG.0070/I If an input data set pixel fractional sea ice estimate exists, this should be used to set the FractionalSeaIce flag of the L2P confidence data record. SR.MRG.0080/I If an input data set pixel sea ice flag exists (i.e. indicating sea ice but not the fractional amount of coverage), this should be used to set the FractionalSeaIce flag of the L2P confidence data record to 100%. If the flag is a binary flag, a check should be made against the reference fractional sea Ice data set to determine if the pixel is likely to be 100% contaminated and the fraction reported by the reference data set should be set if it is < 100%. SR.MRG.0090/I If an input data set pixel sea ice flag does not exist, and the pixel is located in or close to a region that may be ice contaminated, the reference sea ice data sets (NISE) or auxiliary (AMSRE-ICE) or NWP (NWP-ICE) fractional sea ice field should be used to determine the value of the L2P confidence flag FractionalSeaIce. SR.MRG.0110/I The L2P confidence variable FractionalSeaIce_source shall be set to indicate the data source used to set FractionalSeaIce. Medspiration MED-SOC-RS-001_1 System Requirements Document Issue F SR.MRG.0120/I If the SST input data set is derived from a microwave sensor and a sea ice flag is present in the data stream, bit 4 of the L2P confidence data variable MW_SST_flags should be set for this pixel. SR.MRG.0130/I A 10m surface wind speed value should be assigned to each SST measurement pixel. As a general rule for the GDS v1.0, only simultaneous wind speed measurements should be used otherwise NWP analyses should be used. SR.MRG.0150/I In the case of microwave SST measurements, the use of a simultaneous microwave 10m wind speed measurements obtained from the same instrument providing the SST measurement may be used. SR.MRG.0160/I In the absence of a simultaneous surface wind speed measurement, an NWP estimated 10m surface wind speed should be used to set the L2P confidence data variable Wspd_value. SR.MRG.0170/I The difference in time expressed in hours between the time of SST measurement and the time of wind speed measurement should be provided. SR.MRG.0180/I A 6 hourly integrated downwelling SSI measurement (e.g., derived from satellite measurements) should be assigned to each SST pixel. The SSI measurement nearest in space and time before the input pixel SST value should be used. SR.MRG.0190/I If no SSI measurement is available, a 6 hourly integrated SSI value derived from an NWP system (See Appendix A3) nearest in space and time to the SST measurement should be used instead. SR.MRG.0200/I The source of data used to set the L2P confidence data variable should be provided. Code values are defined in [RD-3] Table 2.1.5. SR.MRG.0210/I The difference in time expressed in hours between the time of SST measurement and the mean time of SSI measurement/data validity should be provided. SR.MRG.0220/I A L2P AOD measurement (e.g., derived from satellite measurements) should be assigned to each SST pixel value using the AOD_value L2P confidence data variable. The AOD measurement nearest in space and time to the input pixel SST value should be used. SR.MRG.0230/I If no AOD measurement is available, an AOD value derived from an NWP system or aerosol forecast nearest in space and time to the SST measurement should be used instead. © 2004 SOC Page 35 of 193
