WP-ID3.
55 WP-ID2.2.1.1 Cosmetic data test
55 WP2-147 Some SST data streams contain pixel values that are cosmetic rather than measured in order to provide a complete data
see WP2-149
product. For example, the ENVISAT ATS_NR__2P data stream may contain cosmetically filled pixels. These data are
used to fill in data gaps across the swath following rectification of the curved ground swath made by the conical scan
geometry used by the instrument.
56 WP2-148 The purpose of this test is to extract the status of an input SST flag (if such a flag is present in the native input data
NASR
stream) and to reject all data that have been derived rather than measured by a sensor.
56 The following GDS rule is specified:
56 Rule
WP2-149
Rule 2.2.1.1: If an input SST data stream includes information that indicates that a pixel value is cosmetic rather than
QLC.0050
measured, these data should be rejected from the L2P data file.
data files.
56 WP2-151 WP-ID2.2.1.2 Cloud flag test
56 WP2-152 Many input SST data streams provide a flag or a data value indicating that the input pixel is cloudy. The GDS specifies the
NASR
following rule:
56 Rule
WP2-153
Rule 2.2.1.2: If an input SST pixel data value or associated confidence data indicate the pixel to be cloudy, these data
QLC.0060
2.2.1.2
should be rejected from the L2P data file.
56 WP-ID2.2.1.3 Sun glint test
56 WP2-154 This test is used to set the L2P confidence data record variable SunGlint defined in Table A1.2.2 in Appendix A1. CFD.0300
56 WP2-155 Depending on the local wind speed and sensor-sun view-geometry, sun-glint areas may be present in satellite SST data
NASR
streams. Normal sun glint occurs in reflection from the oceans when the sun is behind and to the side of the satellite.
