As part <strong>of</strong> the final lessons in this Module students will be expected <strong>to</strong> conduct community<br />

awareness in their school or local community. This awareness should be about one aspect <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>HIV</strong>/<strong>AIDS</strong> & <strong>STIs</strong> and include clear positive behavioural messages. They will need <strong>to</strong> plan,<br />

present and evaluate their awareness. They should work in groups <strong>of</strong> 2-4 students.<br />

Value: This assignment is worth 12% <strong>of</strong> the overall course marks<br />

Length: One awareness campaign<br />

Assessment criteria:<br />

1. Needs analysis: Evidence that the students how found out<br />

what the community does and does not know (e.g.<br />

questionnaires) and what the community would like information<br />

on. Group identified (awareness should be targeted on one<br />

group e.g. young women or Grade 6 or older men)<br />

2. Behavioural message: Does the awareness have a clear and<br />

accurate behaviour message about how <strong>HIV</strong>/<strong>AIDS</strong> (e.g. correct<br />

use <strong>of</strong> condoms, resisting pressure, abstinence before marriage,<br />

dangers <strong>of</strong> alcohol, symp<strong>to</strong>ms <strong>of</strong> <strong>STIs</strong>, fighting stigma, gender<br />

equality, reducing violence and rape etc) Does it show gender<br />

equality Is any <strong>HIV</strong> information accurate and delivered in a<br />

clear and sensitive manner<br />

3. Activity: Has a sensible activity been chosen (e.g. drama,<br />

talk, debate, reading in church, Q & A in school etc) Is it well<br />

4. Planning: Is the group well planned and well organised Do<br />
