Herpes<br />

Virus (clears up by itself but<br />

No symp<strong>to</strong>ms in women and can lead <strong>to</strong><br />

infertility and PID. In men a thick yellow pus and<br />

pain when urinating<br />

Gonorrhoea<br />

Bacteria (treated with<br />

antibiotics)<br />

Painless sore on the penis or vagina. Later<br />

goes away. Rash on hands and feet. If<br />

untreated leads <strong>to</strong> heart and brain damage and<br />

death.<br />

Tiredness, yellow eyes and maybe yellowish<br />

skin. Fever.<br />

Syphilis<br />

Hepatitis A or B<br />

Bacteria (treated with<br />

antibiotics)<br />

Virus (vaccine available)<br />

In women causes lower abdominal pain, pain<br />

during sex, heavy periods, bleeding and fever.<br />

In men swelling <strong>of</strong> testes and prostrate. Can<br />

lead <strong>to</strong> infertility.<br />

Usually no symp<strong>to</strong>ms in men or women.<br />

Sometimes pain when urinating. May lead <strong>to</strong><br />

infertility<br />

PID (pelvic<br />

inflamma<strong>to</strong>ry disease)<br />
