Module Purpose<br />

After completing this module successfully the student should be able <strong>to</strong><br />

behave responsibly, protecting themselves and others in a variety <strong>of</strong> ways<br />

and accept protected sex as a habit.<br />

Summary <strong>of</strong> Learning Outcomes<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> this module, the student should be able <strong>to</strong>;<br />

1. List safe and unsafe sexual practices<br />

2. Identify strategies for reducing risk <strong>of</strong> <strong>HIV</strong><br />

3. Demonstrate how <strong>to</strong> resist pressure <strong>to</strong> have unsafe sex<br />

4. Demonstrate correct use <strong>of</strong> the male and female condom<br />

5. State strategies for a healthy and faithful relationship<br />

6. Explain the importance <strong>of</strong> having an <strong>HIV</strong> blood test<br />

Assessment Strategy for the Module<br />

Methods <strong>of</strong><br />

Assessment<br />

Test = 10%<br />

Assignment = 12%<br />

Attitude and participation = 3%<br />

Total = 25% <strong>of</strong> overall course mark<br />

A sample test and sample assignment are <strong>to</strong> be found after the Module<br />

lesson plans. For example, condom demonstration<br />

Content <strong>of</strong> Module<br />

Common sexual practices include vaginal sex, anal sex, oral sex,<br />

masturbation, fingering, kissing<br />

High risk practices include vaginal sex without a condom, anal sex without<br />

a condom, rape, sex when drunk or on drugs, sex when one partner has an<br />

STI, sex with a sex worker without a condom, multiple sexual partners, line<br />

up, polygamy, sex when you or your partner are <strong>to</strong>o young<br />

Low risk sexual practices include vaginal sex with a condom, oral sex<br />

No risk sexual practices include all types <strong>of</strong> kissing, hugging, talking,<br />

masturbation, stroking, abstinence<br />

High risk is when the 4 body fluids that can carry <strong>HIV</strong> enter the body <strong>of</strong> the<br />

uninfected person through a cut or sore or s<strong>of</strong>t tissues<br />

Abstain from sex:<br />

+ 100% safe, make informed choices, cultural and religious acceptance,<br />
