Module Purpose<br />

After completing this module successfully the student should be able <strong>to</strong><br />

provide care and support <strong>to</strong> people living with <strong>HIV</strong>/<strong>AIDS</strong> in their community.<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> this module, the student should be able <strong>to</strong>;<br />

1. Explain the effects <strong>of</strong> stigma and discrimination on people living<br />

with <strong>HIV</strong>/<strong>AIDS</strong><br />

2. List services, treatment and support available <strong>to</strong> people living with<br />

<strong>HIV</strong>/<strong>AIDS</strong><br />

3. Explain how <strong>to</strong> care for people living with <strong>HIV</strong>/<strong>AIDS</strong><br />

4. Demonstrate responsible and caring behaviour <strong>to</strong>wards people<br />

living with <strong>HIV</strong>/<strong>AIDS</strong><br />

Assessment Strategy for the Module<br />

Assignment = 12%<br />

Attitude and participation = 3%<br />

Total = 25% <strong>of</strong> overall course mark<br />

Negative consequences <strong>of</strong> stigma and discrimination include: shame,<br />

isolation, guilt, lack <strong>of</strong> opportunity, early death, low income, stress and<br />

unhappiness, depression, breakdown in traditional caring practices,<br />

unchristian, fear, people scared <strong>to</strong> get tested etc<br />
