2.1. List local VCT centres<br />

2.2. List local STI clinics<br />

2.3. List organisations and groups that support people infected and affected by<br />

<strong>HIV</strong>/<strong>AIDS</strong>.<br />

Resources: None.<br />

a) Introduction: (15 mins)<br />

Say, “VCT centres are vital for everyone <strong>to</strong> have their <strong>HIV</strong> status check and there are<br />

local VCT Centres available for people <strong>to</strong> go <strong>to</strong> for their <strong>HIV</strong> status check.”<br />

In pairs write down the local VCT centres and who runs them. Ask students <strong>to</strong> tell the<br />

whole class their list. Summarise these on the board.<br />

Now ask them <strong>to</strong> do the same for places where they could tested for <strong>STIs</strong>.<br />

Main Activity: (30 mins)<br />

Ask students <strong>to</strong> list why it is important <strong>to</strong> care for people living with <strong>HIV</strong>/<strong>AIDS</strong>.<br />

Now in pairs ask students <strong>to</strong> identify organisations and groups that support people<br />

who are infected and affected with <strong>HIV</strong>/<strong>AIDS</strong>.<br />

Alternative activity: Visit a local VCT centre or ask a VCT worker <strong>to</strong> come and<br />

speak <strong>to</strong> the students and answer their questions.<br />

Conclusion: (15 mins) Individually, design a poster <strong>to</strong> inform people which<br />

organisations and groups support people who are infected and affected by <strong>HIV</strong>/<strong>AIDS</strong>.<br />

Ask students <strong>to</strong> read the section on ART and treatment.<br />
