2 They also create enormous pollution of <strong>the</strong> air and<br />

4 How will <strong>the</strong> increase pollution by <strong>the</strong> GPT<br />

5 affect our local killer whale population, as well as<br />

6 birds, fishes, invertebrates, and o<strong>the</strong>r marine<br />

7 mammals, including <strong>the</strong> food web that supports <strong>the</strong>m.<br />

8 Cherry Point is home to a very important<br />

9 natural herring spawning ground. These fish play a<br />

10 vital role in our local food chain.<br />

11 How will <strong>the</strong> construction operation of <strong>the</strong><br />

12 coal port affect <strong>the</strong> spawning ground?<br />

13 I bring <strong>the</strong>se questions to light because<br />

14 <strong>the</strong>y're highly important and it's absolutely required<br />

15 that we know what affects <strong>the</strong> GPT will have on our<br />

16 very fragile ecosystem.<br />

17 If <strong>the</strong> GPT is constructed, <strong>the</strong>re may be<br />

18 irreversible damage done to our local biodiversity and<br />

19 <strong>the</strong> tourism economy.<br />

20 I believe whale watching is an invaluable<br />

21 experience <strong>for</strong> so many people. We as a species have<br />

22 lost touch with nature and whale watching gives people<br />

23 a chance to see and learn about our ecosystem, even if<br />

24 it's just <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> afternoon. Thank you.<br />
