2 to not help ensure a better future <strong>for</strong> my students and<br />
3 not comment on this particular issue.<br />
4 How ecologically pristine this region is is<br />
5 a source of pride and livelihood here <strong>for</strong> all of us<br />
6 islanders. And in <strong>the</strong> case of that if <strong>the</strong>re is some<br />
7 sort of incident -- and by <strong>the</strong> way, increasing <strong>the</strong><br />
8 number of ships increases <strong>the</strong> likelihood of an<br />
9 incident; increasing <strong>the</strong> size of <strong>the</strong> ships increases<br />
10 <strong>the</strong> potential level of devastation -- I fear that this<br />
11 is a cost that <strong>the</strong> islands would not recover from.<br />
12 And I want to know what would be done to help restore<br />
13 those populations that were devastated. Thank you.<br />

16 Sundberg and I reside on San Juan Island. I'm<br />
17 speaking on behalf of <strong>the</strong> San Juan Island Technical<br />
18 Advisory Group <strong>for</strong> salmon recovery.<br />
19 My group of volunteer natural resource<br />
20 professionals advises <strong>the</strong> San Juan County lead entity<br />
21 on issues affecting protection and <strong>the</strong> restoration of<br />
22 salmon.<br />
23 I have a bachelor of science degree in<br />
24 biological oceanography and I retired as a habitat<br />
25 biologist with <strong>the</strong> Alaska Department of Fish and Game.<br />
