7 BOB GAMBLE: Hi. My name is Bob Gamble from<br />

8 Orcas Island and Waldron Island.<br />

9 I'm going to start out with some<br />

10 uncontrovertible facts. San Juan County has 375 miles<br />

11 of shorelines of statewide significance. The marine<br />

12 waters of San Juan County have many species of<br />

13 threatened and endangered species of marine mammals<br />

14 and birds as visitors, migrants, and residents.<br />

15 Sensitive species that have been designated<br />

16 as threatened or endangered under <strong>the</strong> Endangered<br />

17 Species Act include Steller sea lion, harbor porpoise,<br />

18 Marbled Murrelet, Common Loon, bald eagle, and<br />

19 peregrine falcon.<br />

20 There are at least eight o<strong>the</strong>r species of<br />

21 marine mammals sensitive to vessel traffic in <strong>the</strong> San<br />

22 Juan Islands that are protected by <strong>the</strong> Marine Mammal<br />

23 Protection Act, including, as has been pointed out,<br />

24 <strong>the</strong> local population of orca whales.<br />

25 San Juan County contains many state and<br />
