1 by having that very coal that we won't burn because it<br />

2 isn't clean enough sent back to us in <strong>the</strong> <strong>for</strong>m of<br />

3 pollution.<br />

4 And I don't know if that comment was made, but to me<br />

5 that seems pretty ironic that we live in a world where<br />

6 <strong>the</strong> economic dollar is more important than <strong>the</strong> air<br />

7 quality and <strong>the</strong> world we live in, which seems to be<br />

8 what's happening.<br />

9 My second point is that I've heard <strong>the</strong> statement<br />

10 many times that this project will bring jobs to <strong>the</strong><br />

11 Northwest, and I'll tell you what happens with big<br />

12 mechanized business.<br />

13 It brings jobs <strong>for</strong> infrastructure when <strong>the</strong>y build<br />

14 it, but I lived years ago in Ferry County, Eastern<br />

15 Washington. They started a plant <strong>the</strong>re that was supposed<br />

16 to be a wood-fired plant, but luckily <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>m it had<br />

17 coal scrubbers in <strong>the</strong> stacks.<br />

18 They brought it under <strong>the</strong> guise that this would be a<br />

19 boon <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> community because wood-fired products that<br />

20 came out of <strong>the</strong> woods as slash and unsellable timber<br />

21 could be sold to this plant. It's right at <strong>the</strong> base of<br />

22 <strong>the</strong> Kettle Falls.<br />

23 But luckily, <strong>the</strong>y put in <strong>the</strong>se coal scrubbers, so<br />

24 any time <strong>the</strong>y wanted, <strong>the</strong>y could turn it into a<br />

25 coal-fired plant. The public was not aware of that. It<br />
