Many participants thought the problemsthey were experiencing were unique to them. Manydid not realize they had colleagues in the samecountry, let alone the same town, that they couldturn to for advice and support. Many did notappreciate that their own concerns and opinionswere valid. The following two comments are quiteilluminating:

At itscore lies the human capability to createknowledge - again and again, and togetherwith others” (1996)Successful development is dependent on theability of people.Patta Scott-Villiers notes:“Since individuals are the ones who mediaterelationships, with the support from theirorganizations, then personal developmentbecomes a central focus of good development”.(Inclusive Aid 2004)
