Manderson <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Business219MASTER’S DEGREE REQUIREMENTSAdmission RequirementsMaster’s degrees <strong>of</strong>fered through the Manderson <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Business reflect a diverse range <strong>of</strong> missions and objectives. Enrollment in all master’s programsis limited and competitive. Admissions are su per vised by com mit tees <strong>of</strong> the graduatefaculty in each <strong>of</strong> the academic programs. <strong>The</strong> minimum admission requirements are(a) admission to the <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Alabama</strong>, (b) an acceptablescore on the <strong>Graduate</strong> Management Ad mis sions Test (GMAT), and (c) the completion<strong>of</strong> an ap pro pri ate undergraduate degree. A par tic u lar master’s program may establishhigher standards and/or specifi c prerequisites for admission. Further information aboutthe requirements for admission to master’s programs is included in the section <strong>of</strong> thiscatalog pertaining to each specifi c master’s degree and major fi eld or curriculum.Degree Requirements1. <strong>Graduate</strong> students must meet all the general requirements <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>Alabama</strong> <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong> pertaining to the master’s degree.2. <strong>The</strong> normal course load for graduate students is 12 hours per semester.3. Exceptions to the requirements for the master’s degree may be made only withthe approval <strong>of</strong> the Faculty Executive Board <strong>of</strong> the Manderson <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong>Business.Second Degree RequirementsA student may pursue two master’s degree programs when such a combination isconsistent with the student’s career and educational objectives. Six semester hours <strong>of</strong>eligible credits earned toward one master’s degree may be applied to the requirementsfor a second master’s degree. Accordingly, a student who is interested in combinedprograms is advised to meet with the faculty coordinator <strong>of</strong> each degree program beforeenrolling, since careful planning is required to achieve a successful combination <strong>of</strong> twodegrees.Master <strong>of</strong> Business Administration (M.B.A.) Degree ProgramObjective. <strong>The</strong> objective <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Alabama</strong> M.B.A. Program is to prepare high-achieving,high-potential students for successful careers in business within a globally competitiveenvironment. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Alabama</strong> M.B.A. is a full-time, selective admission program with acommitment to providing a high value-added experience, innovative programs, and re la -tion ship-intensive programming within a di verse and collaborative learning en vi ron ment.<strong>The</strong> curriculum delivers fundamental business concepts and business knowledge throughan interdisciplinary perspective. Case studies, live projects, team work and technologyprovide a dynamic applied teaching and learning environment. Students choose froma diverse selection <strong>of</strong> concentration areas in the second year, which allows for spe cial -iza tion in an area <strong>of</strong> focus aligned with his or her desired career path.Admission requirements. Admission to the M.B.A. Program requires a bachelor’sdegree from a college or university <strong>of</strong> fully recognized standing (or the equivalent);strong academic performance must have been demonstrated. Applicants also must showevidence <strong>of</strong> career interest in management, and relevant employment experience isconsidered in the admissions decision. Applicants must submit scores from the <strong>Graduate</strong>Man age ment Ad mis sions Test (GMAT). Stu dents whose native language is not Englishare required to complete the Test <strong>of</strong> English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Followingan initial review <strong>of</strong> completed application materials, an applicant may be requested tovisit campus for an admissions interview.Students are admitted to the program for the fall only and are encouraged to submitapplications for admission no later than April 15. Applications com plet ed prior to February15 have priority for consideration for fi nancial aid.A student beginning the M.B.A. Program is expected to have mastery understanding <strong>of</strong>business s<strong>of</strong>tware applications, in clud ing the Micros<strong>of</strong>t Offi ce Suite <strong>of</strong> applications, priorto program entry.
