CTL services are designed tohelp students upgrade study strategies and reading pr<strong>of</strong>i ciencies, succeed in specifi cUni ver si ty courses — especially quantitative ones — and compete suc cess ful ly for admissionto graduate and pr<strong>of</strong>essional schools. <strong>The</strong> CTL maintains a dual service orientationthrough the provision <strong>of</strong> opportunities to advance learning strategies for ac a dem i cal lygifted students and to enhance learning strategies for students who need to strengthentheir academic skills.Academic support programs are <strong>of</strong>fered through individual tutoring and consultation,a multimedia resource center, curricular courses, structured review programs, sup ple -men tal instruction, and informal help sessions. <strong>The</strong> CTL also serves the entire Uni ver si tycommunity through its educational programming on CTL-TV, a closed-circuit broadcastavailable 24 hours a day on campus channel 29. Two TRIO programs funded throughthe U.S. Department <strong>of</strong> Education also operate in the CTL. Student Support Servicesprovides academic assistance and counseling to 200 fi rst-generation, income-eligible,and disabled students. <strong>The</strong> Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Programprepares first-gen er a tion and tra di tion al ly underrepresented students for successful entryinto and completion <strong>of</strong> doctoral degree programs. Student in volve ment in these unitsis cri te ri on-based. GEAR UP is an early academic intervention part ner ship programdesigned to help students improve academic per for mance, decrease school attrition, increasehigh-school graduation rates, and increase enrollment in post sec ond ary ed u ca tion.JUMP (Juvenile Mentoring Program), funded through the Offi ce <strong>of</strong> Juvenile Justice andDelinquency Prevention, is the most recent program addition in the Center for Teachingand Learning. JUMP connects underserved students in Holt High <strong>School</strong> with adults, ages19 years and older, in an innovative mentoring program.
