General InformationAt least one week before commencement, the candidate’s record must have beencleared for graduation. Two copies <strong>of</strong> all collegeor university transcripts should be sent at the applicant’s request to the <strong>Graduate</strong><strong>School</strong> directly from the registrar <strong>of</strong> each post sec ond ary institution attended (including<strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Alabama</strong>), and ad mis sions test scores less than fi ve years old (if requiredby the department; see p. 84 for departments that do not require a test) shouldbe mailed to the <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong> directly by the testing service. An application fee <strong>of</strong>$25.00 should be submitted online or by check mailed to the <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong>. All <strong>of</strong>the materials must be received by the <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong> before an application will beconsidered.A student, whether an international or a permanent resident, whose fi rst lan guageis not English, must submit an <strong>of</strong>fi cial score report for the Test <strong>of</strong> En glish as a ForeignLanguage (TOEFL). <strong>The</strong> minimum score for ad mis sion to a degree program or for nondegree ad mis sion is 550 on the non-computerized TOEFL or 213 on the com put er izedTOEFL. <strong>The</strong> TOEFL score must be less than two years old at the time <strong>of</strong> the student'sintended enrollment at <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Alabama</strong>. <strong>The</strong> TOEFL will not be required fromany applicant who has earned a degree from an accredited U.S. college or uni ver si tywithin the past three years. <strong>The</strong> Test <strong>of</strong> Spoken English (TSE) is recommended for internationalstu dents who wish to be considered for teaching as sis tant ships. Information onregistering for the TOEFL and TSE is available worldwide at U.S. embassies, consulates,USIS <strong>of</strong>fi ces, Institute <strong>of</strong> In ter na tion al Education <strong>of</strong> fi c es, AMIDEAST <strong>of</strong>fi ces, and oth eror ga ni za tions concerned with in ter na tion al ed u ca tion. Computer ad min is tra tion <strong>of</strong> theTOEFL is <strong>of</strong>fered at many sites.International applicants must submit two certified copies in the native language along withcertifi ed English translations <strong>of</strong> all transcripts, diplomas, and certifi cates <strong>of</strong> degree.Application may be made to only two programs at a time. A person holding a bachelor’sdegree from a regionally accredited institution (or the equivalent for an internationalapplicant) is eligible for consideration for admission to the <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong><strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Alabama</strong>. Seniors who have completed at least 91 undergraduate creditsat a regionally accredited institution are also eligible to apply.81
