(Environmental Engineering)M.S.E.S.M.M.S.C.S.Ph.D. (Engineering Science and Mechanics)College <strong>of</strong> EngineeringInternational admission. International applicants for engineering graduate pro gramsmust satisfy the above re quire ments and must also have TOEFL scores <strong>of</strong> at least 550.<strong>The</strong> student’s proposed plan <strong>of</strong> study shall include a schedule for removing any un der -grad u ate course defi ciencies.Conditional admission. Each applicant is required to submit a statement <strong>of</strong> pur poseas part <strong>of</strong> the application packet; there are no exceptions. Conditional ad mis sion maybe granted to applicants who• have earned baccalaureate degrees from institutions with programs accredited bythe Ac cred i ta tion Board for Engineering and Tech nol o gy (ABET) or, for applicantsfor com put er science programs, institutions accredited by ABET or the ComputingSci enc es Accreditation Board (CSAB)• have overall grade point averages <strong>of</strong> at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scaleOther appropriate requirements may be established by the individual engineering departments.Conditional admission may be granted to applicants who are not graduates <strong>of</strong> ABETorCSAB-accredited programs and who have <strong>Graduate</strong> Record Examination generaltest scores <strong>of</strong> 1000 or higher, as specifi ed by the department <strong>of</strong> interest. Each applicantshould have the equivalent <strong>of</strong> a 2.5 or higher grade point average (as in requirementslisted above). Other appropriate requirements may be es tab lished by the individualengineering departments.A student admitted conditionally is required to maintain a “B” average for the fi rst12 semester hours <strong>of</strong> graduate coursework and to remove any conditions imposed foradmission in order to continue graduate study.Applicants with GPAs <strong>of</strong> less than 2.5 (out <strong>of</strong> a possible 4.0) may be consideredfor admission to the <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong> only after demonstrating the ability to pursueadvanced work successfully.Advisement and committees. After admission to graduate study by the dean <strong>of</strong> the<strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong>, the student will be referred to the head <strong>of</strong> the appropriate departmentfor assignment to a temporary adviser. <strong>The</strong> chairman and other members <strong>of</strong> thegraduate student’s supervisory committee are usually appointed during the fi rst term <strong>of</strong>enrollment. <strong>The</strong> examining committee (the membership <strong>of</strong> which is normally the sameas that <strong>of</strong> the supervisory committee) is appointed approximately one semester beforethe student expects to graduate.MASTER OF SCIENCE DEGREESMaster <strong>of</strong> science degrees with appropriate designations are conferred on thosestudents who satisfy the requirements <strong>of</strong> (a) the programs or departments in whichthey are enrolled, (b) the College <strong>of</strong> Engineering, and (c) the <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong>.
