General InformationHershel Trimm Memorial Endowed Scholarship. This annual scholarship is givento a part-time or full-time undergraduate or graduate student who is currently enrolledor accepted for admission. An applicant must be at least 25 years old and a resident<strong>of</strong> <strong>Alabama</strong>, have a GPA <strong>of</strong> 2.5 or above for the previous semester, and be enrolledin at least one College <strong>of</strong> Continuing Studies course during the semester in which theaward is received. Priority will be given to those who desire careers in the home-buildingindustry.Robert L. Williamson Endowed Memorial Scholarship. This award is given to a<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Alabama</strong> undergraduate or graduate student over the age <strong>of</strong> 25 who ismajoring in engineering or business and is facilitating his or her education through theCollege <strong>of</strong> Continuing Studies and its Division <strong>of</strong> Distance Education. Priority will begiven to undergraduate students who are taking at least one course through QUEST(Quality <strong>University</strong> Extended Site Telecourses) or other distance learning methods. Mustdemonstrate academic excellence (GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.0 on a 4.0 scale) and show fi nancial need.Variable amount.Jerry F. Wilson Sr. Memorial Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded toan undergraduate or graduate student enrolled part- or full-time who is at least 25 yearsold; enrolled at <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Alabama</strong> or accepted for admission; and enrolled in anacademic program facilitated through the College <strong>of</strong> Continuing Studies. Preference isgiven to students pursuing degrees in disciplines served through the Distance Educationdivision <strong>of</strong> the College <strong>of</strong> Continuing Studies. Variable amount.College <strong>of</strong> EducationDescriptions <strong>of</strong> graduate-level College <strong>of</strong> Education scholarships and an ac com pa ny ingapplication form may be obtained from the <strong>of</strong>fi ce <strong>of</strong> the scholarship steward (104 CarmichaelHall) during regular <strong>University</strong> hours (8:00 a.m.–4:45 p.m., Monday throughFriday). <strong>The</strong> mailing address for this <strong>of</strong>fi ce is Box 870231, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487-0231;the telephone number is (205) 348-6073.Scholarships available through this <strong>of</strong>fi ce for full-time graduate education studentsrange from $350 to $2,000. For its purposes, the College’s graduate scholarship committeedefi nes a full-time graduate student as a student enrolled in at least 9 credit hours persemester for an academic year. A graduate teaching or research assistant is consideredto be a full-time student if he or she is enrolled in 6 or more credit hours per semesterfor an academic year. <strong>The</strong> following information must be submitted to the <strong>of</strong>fi ce <strong>of</strong> thescholarship steward no later than the deadline date printed on the application form:• cover letter• application form• statement <strong>of</strong> purpose• <strong>of</strong>fi cial transcript(s)• three letters <strong>of</strong> recommendation• vita or resuméA detailed description <strong>of</strong> each component <strong>of</strong> the application is included in the College’sscholarship information packet.Scholarship recipients are selected annually during the spring semester that precedesthe academic year to which the award will be applied. All applicants will be notifi ed byletter <strong>of</strong> the disposition <strong>of</strong> their applications within two weeks prior to the College <strong>of</strong>Education Honors Day convocation in April. Recipients will be announced during theconvocation.Generally, scholarships are awarded for one academic year; however, some may berenewable, <strong>of</strong>fering the recipient an opportunity to receive funding for one or more subsequentyears. A recipient must request consideration for continuation in a letter submittedwith an updated application. Renewal requests are subject to review and evaluationby the scholarship committee. A request does not guarantee renewal. A nonrenewablescholarship will not be awarded to an individual more than once.59
