Six hours of supervised studio. V.6b.ARTS 110 (3)–Two-Dimensional DesignA course on the fundamental principles of twodimensionaldesign and composition. Variousmedia are used to investigate elements of designsuch as value, visual weight, form, scale, texture,and rhythm, and to analyze works of art. Anintroduction to letter forms, layout, and colortheory are included. Six hours of supervisedstudio. V.6b.ARTS 115 (3)–Sculpture IAn introduction to the various techniques andprocesses involved in the creation of threedimensionalart. Assignments will spotlight specificdesign and construction concepts, withstudents developing their own solutions frominitial idea to fabrication using a wide range ofmaterials. V.6b.ARTS 119 (3)–Photography IPrerequisite: 35mm non-automatic camerarequired; studio art majors have priority. Anhistorical and practical study of the materialsand techniques of artistic expression throughthe black-and-white photographic process. Willinclude camera and lighting techniques, filmprocessing, a variety of printing methods, aswell as some specialized techniques, such ascombination printing, toning, and paper negatives.Will include study of reproduction andoriginal prints. Safe use of toxic art materials isincluded. Includes information on technical andartistic copyright laws. Six hours of supervisedstudio. V.6b.189­
