<strong>2010</strong>-<strong>2011</strong> Catalog theatre and danceTheatre andDanceTheatreThe Theatre Program is committed to deepeninga student’s knowledge and appreciationof the theatre by studying the theatre of thepast, learning the theoretical background ofthe various parts of the theatre acting, directing,design, play writing, technical theatre; andregular participation in theatre productions.Students have the opportunity to participatein all phases of production work as well as tospecialize in either acting/directing or design/technical theatre. The department producesa broad range of material from the classicsto musicals to modern experimental theatre.Students work with the faculty as well as withguest artists each year.DanceDance is a universal language of art, at onceboth basic and complex. Through movementand choreography, dance transmits boththe essence of a culture and the expression ofthe individual. As with other art forms, thestudy of dance involves mastery of theory, history,and applied dance (technique). The curriculumis arranged so as to give the student thebest possible study in the tradition of a liberalarts environment. Students also have amplechance both to perform and to work with visitingguest artists.
