Students will explore historical,philosophical and sociological themes in Americaneducation. Field experiences provide the opportunityfor application.EDUC 107 (3)–Appropriate TeachingPractices in Early Childhood EducationThis course will focus on strategies for teaching allstudents in the early childhood classroom includingthe child with special needs. Emphasis will beplaced on typical and atypical patterns of earlychildhood development. Three hours per week offield experience in the campus school are required.EDUC 211 (3)–Teaching Diverse LearnersPrerequisite: EDUC 103. This course is an introductionto major issues in the field of specialeducation with emphasis placed on understandingthe characteristics, definitions, and etiologies ofindividuals with diverse needs. Topics exploredinclude: historical perspectives of special education,legal issues, ethical considerations, and the identificationof the qualities of home, school, and communityenvironments that support special educationstudents in achieving their full potential.
