Jeff Ferguson is in his sixth year with the 49ers and his first asDirector of Football Operations and Sports Medicine. Having servedas the team’s Head Athletic Trainer since 2006, Ferguson added theresponsibilities of overseeing the 49ers strength and conditioning,team logistics, equipment and video operations departments duringthe 2011 offseason.<strong>For</strong> the last five seasons, Ferguson has overseen the team’s rehabilitationprocedures, injury records, training room and daily athletictraining duties. He joined the 49ers after serving as the managerof athletic team development with BREG, an orthopedic <strong>com</strong>panybased out of Vista, CA. From June of 2005 until March of 2006 Fergusonspecialized in sports medicine bracing for BREG.Prior to his move to the West coast, Ferguson spent eight years inseveral capacities at Kansas State University, though he continuedto serve as the athletic trainer for the Kansas State football teamthroughout his time in Manhattan. He began his career in Wildcatathletics in 1997 as an assistant athletic trainer for intercollegiatesports.In 2002, Ferguson was promoted to assistant athletic director forsports medicine, a position he held until 2005. In his role, Fergusonwas responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitationof all athletic injuries, in addition to supervising medicalcoverage for 14 collegiate athletic teams. His staff was voted best inthe Big 12 for their medical efforts from 2003 to 2004.The previous two years (1995-97), Ferguson was an athletic trainerwith an orthopedic surgeon and physical therapy <strong>com</strong>pany in Louisburg,NC. While doing graduate work at the University of Texasat Arlington, he spent two years as a graduate assistant athletictrainer that included the task of head athletic trainer for the trackand field teams.Ferguson earned his bachelor’s degree in 1993 at Clemson Universityand his master’s degree in 1995 at Texas-Arlington. He got hisstart in college athletic training as a student athletic trainer at Clemsonfrom 1989 to 1993, and spent the 1992 summer as a preseasonathletic trainer for the New England Patriots. He is also a certifiedmember of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).A native of Clemson, SC, Ferguson is married to the former RebeccaHopper.
