Mike Solari rejoined the 49ers in 2010 as the team’s offensiveline coach after having previously served as the tight ends/assistantoffensive line coach for San Francisco from 1992-96 under legendarycoach Bobb McKittrick. In his role, Solari works closely withoffensive line coach Tim Drevno.In 2010, Solari relied on his extensive experience as he helped shufflean offensive line that was plagued by injury, while also integratingfirst round draft picks T Anthony Davis and G Mike Iupati intothe starting lineup. After a season-ending injury to starting centerEric Heitmann in training camp, Solari was able to quickly find a replacementin David Baas, who hadn’t started a game at center sincecollege. Baas went on to start all 16 games for the 49ers and earnedthe coveted Bobb McKittrick Award as voted upon by his teammates.Prior to joining the 49ers, Solari spent two seasons (2008-09) asthe offensive line coach for the Seattle Seahawks. Under his direction,tackle Walter Jones was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2008.Following his initial stint with the 49ers, Solari spent nine seasonsas the offensive line coach for Kansas City (1997-2005). With Solaridirecting the Kansas City offensive line, the team averaged 126.8rushing yards per game, ranking fourth in the <strong>NFL</strong> during that timespan.Solari’s line produced a trio of Pro Bowl offensive linemen in 2004and 2005, in guards Will Shields and Brian Waters, as well as tackleWillie Roaf. Kansas City became the first club to ac<strong>com</strong>plish thatfeat since Dallas from 1993-96. During his 11-year tenure in Kansas City,the team finished in the top 10 in rushing on seven occasions, in thetop five four times, and ranked 6th in the <strong>NFL</strong> in total offense (359.2yards per game) over that span. Solari was one of just six assistantcoaches in team history to record more than a decade of servicewith the franchise.While with the 49ers from 1992 to 1996, Solari was largely responsiblefor the development of tight end Brent Jones, who made fourPro Bowl appearances, and was instrumental in the team’s successfulSuper Bowl XXIX season.Solari began his <strong>NFL</strong> coaching career with the Dallas Cowboys in1987, where he was the assistant offensive line/special teams coachfor two seasons. He moved on to the Phoenix Cardinals to work withGene Stallings for one season, before joining him at the Universityof Alabama (1990-91).In 1976, Solari’s coaching career began at Mission Bay (CA) HighSchool, followed by stints at Mira Costa Junior College (1978) andU.S. International (1979).
