2010 IN REVIEWGAME SUMMARIESGAME1The 49ers traveled to Seattle with high expectations for their opening gameof the 2010 season, only to come up with more questions than answersas they fell to their division rival, the Seattle Seahawks. The 49ers startedoff in commanding fashion with a defensive unit that appeared to set thetone of the game with a CB Nate Clements interception off a SeahawksQB Matt Hasselbeck pass intended for TE John Carlson on the first play ofthe game. With the defense making a statement to start the season, the49ers offense looked to contribute on their side of the ball, opening theircampaign by charging down the field on their first drive. The 49ers featuredtwo rookie starters on the offensive line (T Anthony Davis and G MikeIupati) in the season opener for only the 4th time in franchise history, andthe first time since 1958. After WR Josh Morgan was unable to come downwith both feet in the end zone on a spectacular throw by QB Alex Smithon the first drive of the game, the 49ers were forced to settle for 3 points. With a field goal by 49ers K Joe Nedney with 4:35 left to go in the firstquarter, the 49ers were on the board first. It had been the first time since2006 that the 49ers scored on their first possession of the season, the lastbeing a 31-yd. TD pass from Smith to TE Vernon Davis at Arz. (9/10/06).The 49ers offense was able to consistently move the ball down the fieldin the first half, holding possession for 12:46 in the first quarter, comparedto 2:14 by the Seahawks offense. However their attention to detail lackedas they were unsuccessful when it came to getting into the end zone. The49ers would get another strong chance to put it in for 6 on a 3rd-and-2situation that left FB Moran Norris a yard shy as he rushed for a 1-yd. gainbefore getting stopped at the 1. After the Seattle stop and a 5-yd. penaltyassessed to Smith for a delay of game, Nedney put it through the uprightsfrom 23 yds. out for 3 points, his second FG of the game. That would be allthe scoring the Seahawks would allow from the 49ers for the rest of theday. After starting the game up 6-0, the 49ers would have the momentumshift to the home team. On the very next drive, the Seahawks wereable to score a touchdown off of a 1-yd. scramble by QB Matt Hasselbeck. The scramble was set up by a 35-yd. pass from Hasselbeck to WR MikeWilliams. Less than 50 seconds later, offensive miscues by Smith and WRMichael Crabtree led to an interception by Seattle, and with 1:33 left togo in the half, Hasselbeck connected with WR Deon Butler on a 13-yd.pass for a touchdown. 49ers miscues and mistakes would cost them 17more points by the Seahawks in the second half with a final score of 31-6.SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 12SEATTLE 31, SAN FRANCISCO 6QWEST FIELD1st 2nd 3rd 4th PtsSan Francisco 3 3 0 0 6Seattle 0 14 14 3 31SF - J.
