2010 IN REVIEWGAME SUMMARIESGAME11Monday Night Football would once again set the stage for an electrifying performanceby the San Francisco 49ers as they went into the University of PhoenixStadium and beat their division rivals, the Arizona Cardinals, 27-6. With eachteam sitting at 3-7 heading into the matchup, it was a must win for both teamsin order to save their seasons. Having swept the Cardinals in 2009, the 49erslooked to extend their streak and did so, executing an offensive game plan thatpounded the ball running throughout the day. San Francisco wasted no time andbegan pouring it on, totaling 261 yds. rushing on 47 carries, the most by the49ers since 11/19/06 vs. Sea. (262 yds. rushing). Most of the yards would comefrom an unlikely source in RB Brian Westbrook. Westbrook entered the gameafter RB Frank Gore was injured early in the 1st qtr., and went on to dominatethe Cardinal defense, totaling 136 yds. and 1 TD on 23 carries. With a physicalitythat could not be matched, the 49ers had their way with the Cardinals onboth sides of the ball as they pressured QB Derek Anderson, forcing him into1 INT and 1 FF, as well as sacking him once. Momentum on both sides of theball allowed San Francisco to capitalize on opportunities. Those opportunitiesbegan after NT Aubrayo Franklin scooped up his first career FR as CardinalsRB Beanie Wells bobbled an Anderson handoff on the 49ers first play on defense.Franklin’s FR led to a 38-yd. strike from QB Troy Smith to WR MichaelCrabtree on the very next play. The 49ers did not stop there as they scored 21points in the first half, including a 1-yd. TD run by RB Anthony Dixon on thevery next offensive series, and Westbrook’s 8-yd. TD run to cap off the 2nd qtr.It marked the first time the 49ers scored at least 21 pts. in the first half since11/16/08 vs. StL (35 first half points). Heading into the locker room at the half, the 49ers led the Cardinals by 15 points, only giving up 2 FGs by K Jay Feely(31 yds., 39 yds.). Arizona’s inability to score was made difficult due to the factthat the 49ers defense allowed only 8 first downs, and once again did not allowa 100-yd. rusher. It marked the 17th straight game that the 49ers defensehad not allowed a 100-yd. rusher and just the 4th time since 2000 that the49ers defense allowed 8 first downs or fewer in a game [6 at StL (1/3/10), 8vs. Chi. (9/7/03), vs. Chi. (12/17/00)]. Late in the 3rd qtr., with the score 24-6,the 49ers put the game out of reach for good as LB Takeo Spikes picked off anAnderson pass intended for WR Early Doucet. The INT gave Spikes his secondINT of the season and 17th of his career, and set up the final scoring for the49ers, a 26-yd. FG by K Shane Andrus. Andrus would register his first careermade FG in the 1st qtr. as he connected on a 31-yd. FG. With the score 27-6late in the 4th qtr., the 49ers chewed up the clock with the ground game, sealingthe victory for the visitors. The 49ers defense held the Cardinals to only 13yds. rushing on the night. It marked just the 4th time in franchise history thatthe defense held an opponent to 13 yds. rushing or less for an entire game.MONDAY, NOVEMBER 29SAN FRANCISCO 27, ARIZONA 6UNIVERISTY OF PHOENIX STADIUM1st 2nd 3rd 4th PtsSan Francisco 14 7 3 3 27Arizona 3 3 0 0 6SF - M.
