Matt Malaspina is in his seventh year with the 49ers and his secondas a national scout. He previously served as the team’s Southeastregional scout for five years. In his current role, Malaspina willbe responsible for scouting college football’s top prospects, as wellas various special assignments.Malaspina joined the 49ers after spending five years as an areascout with the Seattle Seahawks. Prior to the Seahawks, he spentthe 1999 season with the Carolina Panthers, where he evaluated collegeplayers in the Southeast region. Malaspina spent the previousyear with National Football Scouting.Malaspina was an assistant offensive coach at Jacksonville Universityfrom 1997 to 1998. He entered college coaching in 1997 as anintern at his alma mater, the University of Central Florida. A 1993graduate of Central Florida, Malaspina went on to have a brief playingcareer as a center for the Shreveport Pirates of the CanadianFootball League, playing in 1994 and attending training camp in 1995.Malaspina and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Chuluota, FL, with theirson, Carson, and daughters, Grace and Julia.Todd Brunner is in his 12th year with the 49ers as a regionalscout.Prior to <strong>com</strong>ing to the 49ers, he spent two seasons as an area scoutwith the Cleveland Browns, where he <strong>com</strong>bed the Northeast regionin 1999 and 2000 for college talent. Brunner joined the Browns fromthe Philadelphia Eagles where he spent four seasons (1994-97) asan area scout covering the Northeast. He joined the Eagles as ascouting intern in 1992 and worked as a scouting assistant in 1993.Brunner attended Lehigh (PA) University and lettered two years infootball. As a junior, he led the team in special teams tackles, andas a senior quarterback, tied or broke 14 school passing records.Following his football career at Lehigh, Brunner spent one seasonas a graduate assistant at Temple, in 1991, and earned his master’sdegree.Brunner <strong>com</strong>es from a football family as his father John coachedat Temple, Villanova, Princeton and in the <strong>NFL</strong> ranks with Detroit,Green Bay, Tampa Bay and Minnesota, before scouting for the 49ersfor 13 seasons.
