PLAYER BIO6-2 | 248 | CENTRAL FLORIDA | ROOKIE | BORN 8.6.87 | CANTON, GAACQUIRED D-7A IN ‘11 | WODSTOCK HS, WOODSTOCK, GAA productive defensive end in college, Bruce Miller will make thetransition to fullback for the 49ers. Known for his quickness off theedge, Miller plays fast and is very smart. The two-time ConferenceUSA Defensive Player of the Year’s blue-collar work ethic made the49ers confident he will be able to transition to the offensive side ofthe ball.// TRANSACTIONSOriginally the first of three 7th-round (211th overall) draft choices bySF in 2011.// GOLDMINE• Bruce wasn’t the most touted player coming out of high school. Infact, saying he was under the radar was an overstatement; Brucewasn’t even on the radar. UCF defensive coordinator Dave Huxtable, however, was evaluating other Georgia players and noticed Bruceon film. “He was playing tight end,” Huxtable said. “Running andcatching balls and making players miss. He was on the kickoff coverteam and he was the first one down there on the kickoff cover teamplays. Then I got to watch him play basketball. He’s a 6-2 center, but he’s underneath there just battling on the boards. He’s a specialguy.” Huxtable was one of Bruce’s major infulences in becoming thetwo-time Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year. “He playeda huge roll for me,” said Bruce. “I always looked at him for motivationand help. I went to Coach Hux because of the bond we made duringrecruiting and then playing for him at linebacker. Coach Hux, thethings that he does the time and effort he puts in, is just unbelievable.”• One of Bruce’s biggest attributes is his gritty attitude. “The biggestthing is he’s just relentless,” said Miller’s former UCF Defensive Coordinatorand current Knight linebacker coach John Skladany. “Hereally enjoys that part of the game. He goes and looks for the contact. He just keeps going and going and going. You’re going to haveto shoot him to stop him. If he’s going to be blocking, some linebackeris going to have a long day.” The 49ers saw the same toughnessin Bruce and are looking to have him transition from defensive endto fullback. “They said they wanted to bring somebody in who wastough and could bring a hit every play,” said Bruce. “And i think I fitthat description pretty well.”// COLLEGEPlayed in 52 games (46 starts) for the Knights and was a two-timeConference USA Defensive Player of the Year (2009-10).
