The Dardanelles Approach and Adjacent Coast and Islands20.26 Yildiz Koyu, entered 19 miles NE of Ece Limani, is a smallbay which indents the narrowest part of Gelibolu Yarimadasi.Red cliffs are located close W of this bay and a town, withseveral windmills near it, stands on a hill 5 miles SW of it.Bakla Burnu, marked by a light, is located 3 miles NE of thebay. The coast between consists of irregular cliffs, broken nearthe middle by low marshy land.20.26 Ibrice Burnu (40˚36'N., 26˚32'E.), the only salient point onthe N side of the gulf, appears like an islet when approachingfrom the W and can be sometimes mistaken for the largest ofthe Saros Adalari.20.26 Caution.—A restricted area containing unexploded ordnancelies 4.5 miles ENE of Ibrice Iskele.20.27 Gremea Burnu (Boztepe Burnu) (40˚36'N.,26˚07'E.), the NW entrance point, is a rounded headlandcomposed of low yellow cliffs. The actual point is reported tobe difficult at times to be distinguished from other yellow cliffsin the vicinity, but it can be identified by the sandy beaches oneach side.20.27 Meric Nehri (Potamos Evros) (40˚44'N., 26˚03'E.) flowsinto the sea 8 miles NNW of Gremea Burnu and 9.5 miles SEof Alexandroupolis, which is described in paragraph 17.20.This river is used by small craft with local knowledge and theboundary between Greece and Turkey lies in its vicinity.20.27 Caution.—Landing is prohibited on the Turkish coast andoff-lying islands and islets without prior permission.20.27 A coastal bank, on which lie several dangerous wrecks,fronts the shore between Gremea Burnu (Boztepe Burmu) andthe approaches to the port of Alexandroupolis. Numerousvessels have grounded on this bank and great care should betaken when navigating in the vicinity. Due allowance should bemade for the current, which sometimes sets to the E, and aberth of at least 2.5 miles should by given to this entire stretchof coast.Pub. 132
