BubblesThe Bubbles tool (Create > Primitives > More > Bubbles)provides a quick and easy way to create bubbles, rocks, stylisedclouds, and a variety of other interesting objects. This toolreplaces each selected point in your foreground layer with asphere.NOTE: If no points are directly selected, theBubbles tool will use every point in theforeground layer. Remember, more points meanlonger calculation times. To begin, create an assortment of points in the foreground layer. The Spray Points tool is particularly suited for this.Chapter 3: Create Tab 71Tessellation Level of 2 (which is the default) will producesignificantly more polys than a Segment setting of 2 with the Balltool. The default Tessellation Level should work for most bubbles. However, higher numbers (i.e. 4 or 6) can be used for extremelydetailed objects. Though a setting of 6 will produce unwieldyindividual bubbles with more than 100,000 polygons each. For Globes, the resolution of your bubbles will be determined bythe number of sides and segments, which correspond to those inthe Ball tool.NOTE: Tessellation Level has no effect whenusing Globe objects and Sides and Segmentshave no effect when using Tessellated objects. The Bubbles tool uses its own internal routines for varying thesize of each bubble it creates, however you can determine thelargest and smallest bubble size by adjusting the Maximum andMinimum Radius settings. For the best results, use the Fit All command (a) to show everyone of your source points. Then reference your Grid size before entering the Radiussettings. If you enter a Maximum or Minimum radius thatexceeds your Grid size, your bubbles will frequently overlap andproduce undesirable results. You name the surface for the bubble objects in the BubbleSurface field. The default is Bubble, although you can chooseany name.Once you are satisfied with the number and distribution of yourpoints, select the Bubbles tool from the Create Tab in thePrimitives section under More.Once you are satisfied with your settings, click on the OK button. The position of each point will be recorded, after which the pointswill be deleted and bubble objects of varying size will be createdin their place. The options for creating the spheres are similar to those found inthe Ball tool.Under Sphere Type, Globes are composed primarily of four-pointpolys (also known as quads) and can appear angular if they arecreated with a low number of sides or segments. Tessellatedspheres are composed entirely of triangles and, using acomparable number of polys, will often yield smoother results.NOTE: The Bubbles tool requires one undo forevery bubble it generates, which means thatrunning this tool on a large number of points maybe impossible to fully undo. If you want to test different Sizesand Sphere settings, you should copy and paste your pointsto a new layer before running the Bubbles tool.If you choose Tessellated, the resolution of your bubbleswill be determined by the Tessellation Level. TessellationLevel is similar to the Ball tool’s “Segments” setting, however,it is important to note that these settings are not identical. A
