The 1804 will of Robert Brooks (1) show that thefollowing relationships to Robert Brooks (of Mecklenburg County, Virginia):............Abigail Brooks (wife)............Lucy Baugh (daughter)............Sarah White (daughter, deceased by 1804)............Mary White (daughter)............Winifred Butler (daughter)............William Brooks (son- living in 1804 - deceased by 1807)............Rebekah Thomas (daughter)............Penelope Jones (daughter)............Wade Brooks (son - living in 1804 - deceased by 1807)............Jincy Lambert (daughter)It is almost certain that Robert Brooks (1) was patriot during the RevolutionaryWar. On May 14, 1782, Robert Brooks gave for “Continental Use” 675 cwt ofBeef, 56 diets and 34 diets. Robert Brooks also signed Legislative PetitionNumber 392, Mecklenburg County, Virginia, dated May 14, 1777. This documentstates: “Wherefore, your Petitioners pray that all natives of Great Britain,who have not uniformly shown their friendly disposition to the American cause,may be compelled to leave the State, and that some more severe punishmentmay be inflicted upon those who depreciate the paper currency of the UnitedStates, and this Commonwealth, upon credit of which depends the support of theAmerican War.” The DAR application of Ella Kelly states that Robert Brooks(1) “served in Revolutionary War as a private in Captain Thomas Hill’s company,7th Virginia Regiment, commanded by Colonel Alexander McClenachan.The date of his enlistment is not known. His name first borne on the Company’smuster covering the period from December 22, 1776 to May, 1777 which showshim left sick in Virginia. Discharged January 31, 1778.” This author has verifiedthis account.Through will of Robert Brooks (1), 1783 and 1785 personal property tax listsand several marriage bonds, it was believed that Robert and Brambly Brookswere the parents of at least eleven children (the numbers assigned will remainout of order as these birthdates are approximate, three birthdates are unknownand any numbering change would require massive editing to make sequential):............Lucy Brooks (1.1), b. 1759............Robert Rose Brooks (1.2), b. June 2, 1762............Jordan Brooks (2), b. 1766............Penelope Brooks (1.4), b. 1769............Winifred Brooks (1.5), b. 1757............Sarah Brooks (1.6), b. prior to 1786............William Brooks (1.7), b. prior to 1788............Wade Brooks (1.8), b. 1762............Rebecca Brooks (1.9), b. 1772............Jane Brooks (1.10), b. 1776............Mary Brooks (1.11), b. prior to 1786Robert Brooks (1) signed his will on May 11, 1804 and was also listed in the1805 personal property tax list. In 1806, the estate of Robert Brooks was listedin the personal property tax list and his will was recorded on June 9, 1806. It is
