<strong>BROOKS</strong> <strong>FAMILY</strong> <strong>HISTORY</strong> 7-245MARTHA <strong>BROOKS</strong> (2.6) is the daughter of Jordan Brooks and Mary (Cruse)Brooks. Martha was born in 1794 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. MarthaBrooks married John Wright Perkins. Wright was born in 1780 in Georgia. In1820, Wright Perkins was living in Putnam County, Georgia. In 1830, WrightPerkins was living in Upson County, Georgia. From 1840 to 1850, Wright andMartha Perkins lived in Talbot County, Georgia. Sometime after 1850, theymoved to Stewart County, Georgia. Wright and Martha Perkins were the parentsof at least ten children:............Mary C. Perkins (2.6.1), b. 1813, Georgia............Robert Perkins, b. 1818, Georgia............Williamson E. Perkins (2.6.3), b. January 27, 1820, Georgia............Frances A. Perkins (2.6.4), b. 1824, Georgia............Isham Eldridge Perkins (2.6.5), b. Georgia“Brooks <strong>Family</strong> History” also mentions that Wright and Martha Perkins had ason named Mit. Williamson Perkins posted a $10,000 bond as administrator ofWright Perkins’ estate in Stewart County, Georgia on July 6, 1857. Therefore,Wright Perkins probably died in the early part of 1857. John Wright Perkinswas buried in the Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery in StewartCounty, Georgia. In 1860, Martha (Brooks) Perkins was living in StewartCounty, Georgia. Martha (Brooks) Perkins died between 1864 and 1873 andwas buried in the Providence Cemetery in Stewart County, Georgia. RobertPerkins was killed in the Civil War. Peter and Mary Gates were the parents of atleast three children:............Martha Gates, b. 1846............Margaret Anna Gates, b. November, 1849............Peter Gates, III, b. 1850Peter Gates was a farmer. In 1850, Peter and Mary Gates were living in RussellCounty, Alabama.
