James Butler(who married Winifred Butler) has two children born between 1775 and 1784.On May 11, 1804, Winifred “Butler” is listed in the will of her father, RobertBrooks (1). On January 1, 1807, “James Butler and wife Winifred” were involvedin a Chancery Suit in Mecklenburg County, Virginia concerning the divisionof slaves in the estate of Winifred’s father, Robert Brooks (1). On October9, 1809, “Winny Brooks who married James Butler” was involved in a secondChancery Suit in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. The second wife of RobertBrooks (1), Abigail (Ellis) Brooks, had brought suit against her step-children forallotment of her widow’s dower. James Butler died in 1811 as his will wasproven in Edgefield County, South Carolina court on June 7, 1811 (Book A,Page 298). On April 6, 1819, Winifred Butler of Edgefield District, SouthCarolina appointed her brother-in-law, David Thomas, of Brunswick County,Virginia “my lawful attorney to sue for and execute a bill of sale of a negrowhich fell to my share of the estate of her father.” In 1830, “Winifred” Butler(born 1740 to 1750) was living with what could be one daughter (born 1800 to1810) in Edgefield County, South Carolina. Abstracts of Wills of EdgefieldCounty, South Carolina, contains a will of Winnefrey Butler, “widow of JamesButler,” which was signed on November 21, 1823 and proven on February 11,1831. This will indicates that Winifred (Brooks) Butler died in 1831.Rebeccah Butler married Hugh Ballentine and they had at least one daughter: -Frances Ann Ballentine. In 1811, Hugh Ballentine was qualified as administratorfor the will of James Butler in Edgefield County, South Carolina. Hugh andRebeccah Ballentine did not leave any heirs (it is assumed that Frances diedwithout issue). Polly Butler married Christopher Shaw. According to the will ofJames Butler, Sr., James Butler, Jr. died prior to 1811. Robert Butler marriedMatilda Cooper. Ann Butler married Henry Waldrum and they had seven children:- Henry Waldrum, - John Waldrum, - Elizabeth Waldrum who marriedBenjamin Addison, - Matilda Waldrum, - Mary Waldrum, - WilliamWaldrum who married Eliza Crafton, - Charlsie Waldrum who married JamesArmstrong. Matilda Waldrum married Joseph R. Addison and they had onedaughter: - Mary Addison. Matilda married a second time to Wiley Glover anda third time to a Mr. Gaskins. Mary Addison married John Elbert Doby. Marymarried a second time to a Mr. Timmerman.
