On October 13, 1869, Mattie Brooks first married John Kelly inRutherford County, Tennessee. John was born in 1848 in Ireland and was a saddlerby trade. John and Mattie Kelly were the parents of four children:............James R. Kelly (2.3.3.5.1), b. May 28, 1872............Mary Ella Kelly, b. August 13, 1873............Nellie Kelly, b. August, 1878............Elsie Kelly, b. October 31, 1880John Kelly died in 1880. On December 24, 1888, Mattie married a second timeto Claude F. Drake in Lee County, Alabama. Claude was born in September of1865 in Georgia. Claude and Mattie Drake were the parents of one daughter:............Sadie E. Drake (2.3.3.5.5), b. October, 1889, AlabamaMattie (Brooks) Drake died on July 17, 1900 in Decatur, Alabama and was buriedin the Forest Hill Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama. Mary Ella Kelly diedas a child on March 21, 1875 and was buried in the Evergreen Cemetery inMurfreesboro, Tennessee. Nellie Kelly married Wallace M. Peterson (born1871). Wallace M. Peterson died in 1922 and Nellie (Kelly) Peterson died in1967 in Birmingham, Alabama. Wallace and Nellie Peterson had no childrenand both were buried in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama.Elsie Kelly married Dr. William Franklin Black and they had at least onechild: - Fred V. Black. Elsie (Kelly) Black died on May 8, 1908 and Dr. WilliamFranklin Black died on May 18, 1925. Both were buried in the Forest HillCemetery in Birmingham, Alabama. Fred V.
