Hill, theauthors oldest known Hill ancestor and is believed to the daughter of John andNancy Hill. Margaret was born on January 22, 1847 in Arkansas. According toher brother’s Confederate Army pension appllication, Eli Hill moved to SanMarcos, Hays County, Texas in 1858. Eli was fifteen and Margaret was elevenat this time and they came to Texas with their older half-brother, John W. Hill.On July 4, 1867, Margaret Hill married William Atwood Leath. William wasborn on February 1, 1826 in Alabama and is the son of James W. Leath (born1802 in Georgia). William was previously married to Mary Ann Davis (born1834 in Tennessee) in Tennessee and they had five children: Artee Jane Leath(born 1850 in Tennesee) who married William Henson (born 1844 in Alabama),Georgeann Leath (born 1856 in Texas) who married T. V. Leach (born 1835 inIndiana), Josephine Emma Leath (born 1857 in Texas) who married JepthaHenson (born 1855 in Texas), Johnnie Amanda Leath (born 1859 in Texas) whomarried William Hickman Wimberley, William Atwood Leath, Jr. (born 1862 inTexas) who never married. William moved from Nashville, Tennessee to Texasthe last year of the Texas Republic and moved to Hays County in 1847. WilliamLeath established a tan yard and made leather for the Confederate Armyduring the Civil War.
