Specific Decontamination Procedures for Equipment and Bench top Surfaces which have come into
contact with Highly Toxic Waste
Include here methods of cleaning up work surfaces in hoods or bench tops so as to render traces of
toxic chemicals benign.
General Procedure: To clean work surfaces or bench tops, spill area is generally diluted with
water or an organic solvent (acetone) depending upon the contamination. The affected area is then wiped
down with a sponge or mop depending on area and size of the contamination.
