Chapter 5Communicating with <strong>DeviceNet</strong>from Another NetworkWhat This Chapter ContainsThis chapter describes how to communicate with the <strong>DeviceNet</strong>network from another network, using the <strong>PLC</strong>-5 “pass-through”feature. This feature can be used to adjust and fine tune the nodes onyour network. Examples are provided for communicating from aControlNet network, an Ethernet network, and a Data Highway Plusnetwork.ATTENTION!The pass-through feature is not intended to replace a1770-KFD, PCD, PCID, or PCIDS connection to thenetwork:• Pass-through is intended only for fine tuning andadjustment of your network devices. Do notattempt to configure your entire network using apass-through driver, or a time-out may occur.• The pass-through method is not suitable for realtime monitoring of your network devices.IMPORTANTTo use the pass-through feature you must have thefollowing versions of the RSLinx software and<strong>1771</strong>-SDN module firmware:ComponentRSLinx software<strong>1771</strong>-SDN moduleSoftware/Firmware Version2.10 or higher4.003 or higherYou must have previously set up the network you will use tocommunicate with the <strong>DeviceNet</strong> network and have installed andconfigured the appropriate drivers and interface hardware.
