notice of not less than three months in writing direct to the appointing authority with a copymarked to his immediate superior officer for information. before giving such notice, he maysatisfy himself by means of a reference to such authority that he has completed the requirednumber of years of qualifying service.Explanation (i).—The term “appointing authority” means the authority which has power to makesubstantive appointment to the post or service from which the Government servant wants to retire andincludes any higher authority to such appointing authority.Explanation (ii).—The term “qualifying service” means permanent or officiating service (includingtemporary service under emergency provisions) rendered in a post included in a pensionableestablishment without interruption.(with effect from 14th February 1997.)[G.O. III) Department, dated 14th February1997.](b) The period of three months notice shall be reckoned from the date of receipt of noticeby the appointing authority.(c) The three months notice may be given before the Government servant attains thequalifying age or the qualifying service, as the case may be, provided that the retirement takesplace after attaining the specified age or completing the required number of years of qualifyingservice, as the case may be.(d) (i)A Government servant including a Government servant in the Tamil NaduBasic Service retiring voluntarily shall be given a weightage not exceeding five years,subject to the condition that the total qualifying service rendered by such Governmentservant, including weightage, does not in any case exceed Thirty three years ofqualifying service and it does not take him beyond the date of superannuation, as thecase may be.The weightage shall be calculated as specified in the Table below:-<strong>THE</strong> TABLEWeightage with reference to qualifying service.(1)Qualifying service(a)For all the Government servants.Weightage(b)Weightage with reference to age.Age(a)(2)Weightage(b)For all the Government servants other thanthe Government servants in the Tamil NaduBasic Service.28 years andbelow.5 years of weightage and itshall not exceed thirty threeyears of qualifying service.53 years and below. 5 years ofweightage.29 years 4 years of weightage 54 years 4 years ofweightage30 years 3 years of weightage 55 years 3 years ofweightage31 years 2 years of weightage 56 years 2 years ofweightage32 years 1 year of weightage 57 years 1 year ofweightage106
