The entries are set out according to the specifications of the I n t e r n a t i o n a lS t a n d a rd Bibliographic Description for Monographic Publications / InternationalFederation of Library Associations. - 1st standard ed. - London : IFLA Committee onCataloguing, 1974 [ISBN 0-903043-02-5].This work uses a simple cross-reference system : in the two “bibliographies”(one for Old Occitan , and the other for Modern Occitan), authors’ names are listed inalphabetical order, with the items being identified by sequence numbers. Wheneverpossible, the works itemized are located in notes. Each bibliography is followed by thecorresponding repertory with the names of the Occitan writers and the titles of theirtranslated works listed alphabetically. The translations, with appropriate details, areentered in chronological order and preceded by their identifying numbers. The threeindexes at the end of the book should resolve any difficulties in finding the informationneeded. It is hoped that the occasional errors which will be discovered by thescrupulous reader will not impair the reliability of the present contribution, as it has notbeen possible to check or explore the contents of all the items quoted. Omissions havecertainly been made, and the author offers his apologies to all the scholars andtranslators whose names have unjustly been forgotten. He will welcome any remark, suggestion or comment which might help him revise this work for a future edition of astill longer list of translations from Occitan literature. For there will never be too manyillustrations of the poet’s statement : “Translating a poem means adding a new one toour national heritage” .*Taulignan, April 6, 1997[* Victor Hugo. Quoted by D’Herde in the introduction to her R é p e rt o i re . O u rtranslation].
