Dutch military personnel deceased in Afghanistan 2006 -2010First of all, the government would like to express its respect for those whodid not return from the Netherlands’ deployment for ISAF. The deploymentfor ISAF has cost the lives of 25 Dutch military personnel.• On 26 July 2006, Sergeant Bart van Boxtel and LieutenantColonel Jan van Twist were killed when the transport helicopterthat carried them crashes in eastern Afghanistan.• On 31 August 2006, Captain Michael Donkervoort was killed in anair accident with his F-16 northeast of Uruzgan.• On 11 October 2006, a serviceman in the rank of sergeant took hisown life at Kamp Holland in Tarin Kowt.• On 6 April 2007, Sergeant Class 1 Robert Donkers was killed inan accident involving an armoured vehicle during a patrol north ofTarin Kowt.• On 20 April 2007, Corporal Cor Strik was killed by an ImprovisedExplosive Device (IED) during a foot patrol in the province ofHelmand.• On 15 June 2007, Private Class 1 Timo Smeehuijzen was killed ina suicide attack during a patrol in Tarin Kowt.• On 18 June 2007, Sergeant Major Jos Leunissen was killed in amortar accident during fighting around Chora.• On 12 July 2007, First Lieutenant Tom Krist died in the CentralMilitary Hospital in Utrecht from injuries sustained two days beforein a suicide attack during a patrol in Deh Rawod.• On 26 August 2007, Sergeant Class 1 Martijn Rosier was killedby an IED during a patrol north of Deh Rawod.• On 20 September 2007, Private Class 1 Tim Hoogland was killedduring a firefight north of Deh Rawod.• On 3 November 2007, Corporal Ronald Groen was killed when hisreconnaissance vehicle hit an IED.• On 12 January 2008, Private Class 1 Wesley Schol and CorporalAldert Poortema were killed by friendly fire during an operation inDeh Rawod.• On 18 April 2008, Private Class 1 Mark Schouwink and FirstLieutenant Dennis van Uhm were killed when their vehicle hit anIED north of Tarin Kowt.• On 7 September 2008, Private Class 1 Jos ten Brinke was killedin an IED attack north of Tarin Kowt.Page 7 of 133
