try-side, with usually the glint
of brook or creek; pastures, a
group of trees, or a seascape,
figure, but this is rare and if
there is life at all it is in flocks
of sheep or small herds of gentle,
placid cows. Quaint Dutch fishing
boats ride at anchor in some
of his things, in others a brightsailed
boat skims before the
breeze. Gruppe's canvases
bring the message of the peace
and serenity that nature offers
in the quiet places.
