14 THE INDEX, Saturday, June 2, 1928
COMMENCING Monday
evening, June 4, with
matinees Wednesday and
Saturday, The Nixon Players
will present "The Last Warning,"
which has overwhelmed
theatre-goers of New York with
its novelty of plot, striking situations
and love story. The idea
involves a haunted theatre. The
leading man has vanished. It is
alleged that his ghost is sticking
around to see that no one else
fills his part. A manager defies
the spook and proceeds to engage
a cast. Rehearsals are attended
with spooky surprises,
fearsome vapors spread, pictures
drop from the wall, flames leap
from dust - covered furniture,
sandbags flop from the flies to
tables, and other things happen
in such quick succession that
everyone is wondering what will
let go next.
"The Last Warning" is staged
from "The House of Fear," a
story written about ten years
ago by Wadsworth Camp, a
Princeton graduate. Several
years ago Thomas F. Fallon
chanced on the story in an outof-the-way
Summer hotel in
Maine and became so absorbed
that he decided to dramatize it.
It was purchased by two young
producers, Mindlin and Goldreyer,
who changed the name to
"The Last Warning."
An excellent cast is provided
by The Nixon Players, including
Harry Bannister, Katherine Wilson,
Josephine Whittell, Louise
