14 THE INDEX, Saturday, April 28, 1928 T H E S T A G E A N D S C R E E N ETHEL DAVIS Will appear on the Davis Theatre program next week. NED Wayburn's Buds of 1928, an aggregation of youthful coryphees, will hold headline position in the Keith-Albee vaudeville program at the Davis Theatre next week, while the photoplay feature will be "Almost Human," with Vera Reynolds and Kenneth Thomson. The insignia of Ned Wayburn on a dancing act is always a guarantee of excellence. In his company this season are eight debutantes schooled under the master's direction, and appear ing under the leadership of Peter S. Larkin, a dancer of great ability, who has appeared as feature artist here and abroad. There are ten scenes to the revue, each consisting of three or more numbers, staged in colorful settings. Ethel Davis, singing comedienne, late of the Greenwich Village Follies, will contribute a skit known as "Refreshing Song Chatter," made up of comedy bits punctuated with character songs. The frozen North has been selected by Chisholm and Breen as the setting for their humorous offering, "A Frozen Romance," in which they prove there is fun in the snow country, if one knows how to get it out. Nelson B. Clifford and Marie Marion, another important booking, are an ideal comedy combination. They came to vaudeville from musical comedy, after appearing in "Katinka" and other successes. Inez and De- Wyn will present an art classic "Adagio," said to be a perfect blend of grace and poetry with the higher form of acrobatics. The screen feature, "Almost Human," an appealing story by Richard Harding Davis, will show Vera Reynolds, as star, supported by Kenneth Thomson, a Pittsburgh boy and a graduate of Carnegie Tech Dramatic School. The program will include views of up-to-the-minute happenings in the world news. STANLEY A chance ride in a motor car saved her life—and then ruined it. Lured from a train by the honeyed words of a lover she drove through the countryside for a few hours. The train went on and was wrecked, killing nearly every soul on board. That is the story told in Pola Negri's latest starring picture "Three Sinners" which is coming to the Stanley next week. What happened when she read the news of her own death in the morning papers? What faltering words came to her lips when she stood face to face with her stern father-in-law in her lover's house? What did she do when that father-in-law said with icy finality, "My daughter-in-law is dead—she died last night in the wrecked train!" "Three Sinners," one of the greatest of Pola Negri's starring vehicles, tells with tense drama this great story and the answer to these questions. Paul Lukas, Tullio Carminati, and Olga Baclanova appear in support of the star. The stage program will feature a colorful revue, "In Bermuda," with the Eight Revelers, Williams and Douglas, Sully and Coogan, Madeleine Killileen, and the Leibling sisters, presenting specialties under the leadership of Phil Spitalny, Pittsburgh's popular director.
