Connectivity Model, one may identify areas of dislocation and test the efficacy, indicativelywith the Bid-rent Model, of various spatial interventions to rectify this. The diagram (Figure 3-10) reflects the result of the Bid-rent Model. The cooler-colouredareas (greens and blues) in the model represent those areas with relatively low bid-value,and correlate primarily with environmentally sensitive areas. The warmer colours (reds, oranges and yellows) show areas with relatively high bid-value,and tend to correlate with areas of the urban system that are fundamentally well structuredand enabling.Whilst the Connectivity and Bid-rent Models are not interconnected at this stage, they areboth concerned with understanding a common issue: The Social Logic of Space, i.e. howto understand the interrelationships between different spaces, the factors that define theseinterrelationships, and the way in which to operate within these interrelationships. The Connectivity Model provides a means of exploring the 'metric' properties of a spatialstructure, whilst the Bid-value Model explores a wider range of 'topological' relationships.Figure 3-10: The Bid-rent Model for the GCR on a strategic levelSECTION 3: THE MODELLING ELEMENTS OF THE GSDFGAUTENG SPATIAL DEVELOPMENT FRAMEWORK 2011GAUTENG GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT AGENCY46
