ased on humanism, but was also considered as a legal responsibility and acivil mission, since the consequences of a bad education are a problem ofthe whole community.There were discussions with the first class teacher and this new case waspresented as a challenge, a personal challenge for ending her career in adignified manner. This technique motivated the teacher and encouraged herin a more professional engagement in facing the case by considering it as acriteria or standard of achievement. This achievement is what makes thedifference between a highly professional teacher and a normal one.We organized visits with the teacher at the children's families through whichimportant information was gathered by talking to the parents regarding theirlack of interest in their children's performance at school. A communicationchannel and a relationship were built. Meetings at school usually have anofficial 'aura', putting parents in an unequal position, while meetings in thefamily (at home) are more intimate and revealing, more friendly andstraightforward in building a mutual respect and sharing respective civilresponsibilities.Another meeting was organized with the presence of the parents and theteacher at the local Commune representatives, requesting an interventionregarding their economic situation (the government is a guarantor of theimplementation of the law in offering support for families in need).The organization of educational and entertaining activities was titled: "Theyare like everybody else!" with the motto: "Everybody should be equal inaccessing knowledge and life opportunities!" This activity was organizedwith the children of the first grade and their parents and aimed at breakingstereotypes through the presentation of the children's performance, who, incertain areas, demonstrated additional values and talents from the rest of thegroup.The inclusion of Roma parents in the school's Parental Board delivered themessage that they are responsible not only for bringing their children toschool but also for showing concern about the quality of their education.Their voice is crucial for the functioning of the school.Changing the seats of these children in the classroom was not an easyaction, but essential in breaking the social "walls" within the community andthe educational environment. Children can be happy with little changes.Caring and showing respect towards them makes them feel important in theenvironment where they live.Following their results and school attendance, the continuous informing oftheir parents raised the latter's concern, trust and parental satisfaction for the32
