Goal: Spatial Relationships<strong>Activity</strong> 1: CubesPlace two cubes side by side on the <strong>Light</strong> <strong>Box</strong>. Give the childtwo cubes and ask him to place his cubes just like yours.Perform the same task, having him imitate thepositions of several cubes, pegs, or other objects placedin a row, in a stack, under a cup, and in various otherarrangements. See if he can perform the task without verbalcues. After he has arranged his cubes, have him describetheir positions.<strong>Activity</strong> 2: Pegs/cubesHave the child make a line of pegs or cubes across the <strong>Light</strong><strong>Box</strong>, spacing them as evenly as she can. If she performs thiseasily, suggest she make a line from the top edge of the<strong>Light</strong> <strong>Box</strong> to the edge closest to her. She may also follow theedges of the <strong>Light</strong> <strong>Box</strong> surface, making a large rectangle ofpegs or cubes.<strong>Activity</strong> 3: Pegboard and pegs/template and cubesFill the 6 x 1 template with cubes. Give the child a templateand cubes. Have him orient the template like yours and fillit with cubes. Perform the same task with the 3 x 3 template.Encourage the child to work in a left to right, top tobottom order.65
