Checking / adjusting valve clearance<br />
BMW inspections/services I, II, III, IV<br />
• Check valve clearances with two<br />
feeler gauges simultaneously and<br />
engine temperature below 95 O F.<br />
• Adjust clearance if necessary<br />
Caution: Make sure gaskets are<br />
seated correctly, the center gasket<br />
may have a wear pattern, install in<br />
same position as it was removed.<br />
• Reinstall all components and torque<br />
to specification.<br />

Valve Clearances:<br />
Intake 0.15 mm (0.006 in.)<br />
Exhaust 0.30 mm (0.012 in.)<br />
Tightening torque:<br />
Adjuster lock nut, 8 Nm (6 ft. lb.)<br />
Cylinder head cover, 8 Nm (6 ft. lb.)<br />
